That’s the current jackpot amount in the Georgia MegaMillions lottery, and that’s enticing a lot of people including visitors from surrounding states, to purchase their tickets before the drawing at 11:00 tonight (Tuesday, January 19th).
And don’t worry, if you don’t win a thing tonight, the Georgia Powerball drawing is set for a Wednesday night drawing (January 20th), also at 11:00. It’s worth a measly $730 million.
The Georgia Lottery since its inception back in November of 1992 – has raised $22.6 Billion for education in the state.
Georgia Lottery proceeds are used to fund specific education programs: (1) – Tuition grants and scholarships to undergraduate college students for attendance at eligible Georgia colleges, universities, or technical colleges; and (2) – The Georgia Prekindergarten Program for all 4-year-olds. Formerly lottery funds were also directed to capital outlay projects including computer and other technological upgrades for schools and technical institutes as well as the colleges and universities across the state. More than 1.9 million students have been able to attend colleges through Georgia’s HOPE scholarship program and more than 1.6 million four-year-olds have attended Georgia’s Pre-kindergarten Program.
