Golden State Warriors' Kevin Durant suffers knee injury

Photo by Joe Faraoni / ESPN Images(WASHINGTON) — Golden State Warriors star Kevin Durant could miss the remainder of the NBA’s regular season after suffering a hyperextended left knee in his team’s Tuesday loss to the Washington Wizards.

Durant underwent an MRI, but results aren’t expected to be announced until later Wednesday.

During a loose-ball situation Tuesday, Wizards big man Marcin Gortat fouled his Warriors counterpart Zaza Pachulia. Durant’s injury occurred when Pachulia fell backwards into him, sliding into Durant’s knee.

Durant jumped away from the collision, eventually playing for a couple of possessions before asking coach Steve Kerr to call timeout. Durant was taken to the locker room with a grimace evident on his face.

Durant took just one shot in the game, leaving with no points. That broke a 562-game regular season streak in which Durant had scored double-digit points.

After the game, Kerr said that he is “always concerned about any injury, because you never know how bad it’s going to be.”

Warriors forward Draymond Green said that he was “just really hoping that it was a bone bruise” and not something worse.

The Warriors have agreed to a contract with veteran forward Matt Barnes in the wake of Durant’s injury.

Durant is from the Washington, D.C. area, and Tuesday’s game was the first time he had played in his hometown since signing with the Warriors. Washington had expressed hope it could sign Durant last offseason.
