Cherokee County Public Library Releases Schedule of Upcoming Events

Adult Programs:

1.      Brain Bites: Meets the third Thursday of the Month at 12:30. A lunch & learn series. These are one-hour lectures presented by Master Gardeners and other professionals. Bring your lunch! We’ll provide the drinks and dessert.

May 15: Creative Potting with Debbie Foley, Master Gardeners

July 17: Bird Watching with Rebekah Taylor, Field School Assistant Director, Little River Canyon Center

August 21: Appalachian Tree Teas, Wisdom in the Leaves with Mandy Pearson,  Program Director of Camp Lee

September 18: Hidden Mentone with David & Lesa Cummings

November 20: Deck the Halls with Dana Carroll, Library Director

December 11: No Humbug with Dolories Hydock

2.      Read Around Book Club meets at 11:00 AM on the first Monday of each month.

3.      Sew Joyful Quilters: Meet with quilters each Thursday at 9:30 AM to discuss quilt design and techniques. The quilters work on different quilt projects throughout the year.

4.      Makers Nook: Meets every Tuesday from 3-4:30 PM. A yarning group where fiber artists meet to share their skills in various yarn crafts and create different projects using a variety of techniques like crochet, knitting, macrame, needlepoint, and more.

  1. Art in the Afternoon: Meets every Thursday from 2 PM to 4:30 PM. Join other artists as they meet to share their latest projects, develop techniques, and discuss all things art-related.

Children’s Programs:

6.      Storytime: Summer Storytime on Tuesday in June at 9:30 AM.

Join us for songs, rhymes, crafts, coloring, and reading fun. Spaces are limited. Call 256-927-5838 or PM on FB to reserve a spot for your child.

  1. 1000 Books Before Kindergarten

The concept is simple, but the rewards are priceless. Read a book (any book) to your newborn, infant, and/or toddler. The goal is to have read 1,000 books (yes, you can repeat books) before your precious one starts kindergarten. For information on how to sign up, call the library at

  1. DAR: 9-11:00 AM, Barry Springs Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Meet in the Genealogy Department to work on projects and help individuals working on their family history.
  • Dig into your family’s roots with com and FamilySearch.org – free, in our genealogy room! Use your free FamilySearch.org account here at the library and gain access to records that are unavailable on your home computer.

 

Centre Career Center: Career Specialist Andre Mitchell will be at the library on Tuesdays from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM to assist with your job search needs. Services include resume preparation, job search assistance, WIOA eligibility, on-the-job training, etc.
