Collinsville baseball advances to second round with sweep of Rogers

COLLINSVILLE – Class 3A, No. 8 Collinsville advanced to the second round of the Class 3A state baseball playoffs Friday with a doubleheader sweep of visiting Rogers. The scores were 5-2 and 7-6.

In the first game, Gavin Lang led the Panthers with a pair of hits and four RBIs. He also earned the win on the mound after working 5 1/3 innings. He allowed just one earned run on three hits with two walks and nine strikeouts.

Mason McAteer managed a pair of hits, including a double. He also walked and scored a run. Jeremiah Killan and Jake Middlebrooks both collected a pair of hits. One of Killian’s was a double. Colton Pettus delivered a hit, a walk and two runs. Jameson Coker contributed a hit and a run.

In the second game, Rogers rallied from a 5-1 deficit with a run in the bottom of the fifth and four in the bottom of the sixth to tie the game at 6. The Panthers managed to push the go-ahead run across in the top of the seventh and held on in the bottom half for the final.

Killian led Collinsville at the plate with a pair of hits, including a triple. He also drove in two runs. Sylas Adams added a pair of hits, including a double. He also scored two runs. Middlebrooks also managed two hits with a run and two RBIs. McAteer finished with a hit, two walks and two runs.

Clanton tossed 5 1/3 innings. He gave up three earned runs on seven hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. Brantley Daugherty worked 1/3 of an inning and allowed three unearned runs on a hit with a walk and a strikeout. Will Edmondson pitched 1 1/3 innings of no-hit ball with three strikeouts.

Collinsville will face No. 5 Gordo in next Friday’s second round. Gordo swept Piedmont 6-2 and 2-0 in other first round playoff action on Friday.
