Paulding County GA Deputy Shot; Suspect Killed

Paulding County- A Deputy was shot in Paulding County, GA while conducting a wellness check near Dallas according to local authorities. According to Paulding County Sheriff spokesman Jordan Yuodis, the situation began after deputies received a call from a business about one of its employees.  Deputies were allowed into the home to check on the man by a woman at the residents. When they reached to bedroom to speak with him, he began shooting, striking a deputy who was rushed to the hospital. Deputies returned fire, striking and killing the shooter.

“The outcome is not what anyone expected or anyone would have wanted,” Yuodis said. “It’s a tough situation and a unique case because it just wasn’t expected.” “This was a typical Thursday morning,” Yuodis said. “Our deputies respond to welfare checks daily, sometimes multiple times a day, and this was not expected by any stretch of the imagination.”

The deputy’s name was released by Sheriff Ashley Henson as Deputy Brice Maddox. He was shot in the shoulder, and is expected to be ok. The identity of the deceased shooter had not been released.

The GBI has responded to the scene and is handling the investigation.
