Centre- A wreck occurred on the Highway 9 causeway between Centre and Cedar Bluff on Tuesday Morning. According to witnesses, a woman was traveling from Centre towards Cedar Bluff on Tuesday morning, when she attempted to pass on the right shoulder. A witness we spoke with said she came around to the right of him off of the road, making contact with the guard rail. He stated she narrowly missed hitting his truck. She bounced off the guard rail, and struck another vehicle traveling in the same direction.
When WEIS arrived on the scene, first responders were working to free one of the victims from a car that was trapped on top of the guard rail. Talking to authorities at the scene, one person was injured and taken to a local medical facility for treatment. The female driver appeared to have been taken into custody. We do not know at this time if she was arrested or on what charges if she was.
The accident occurred around 6 AM, and had the causeway shut down in both directions for around 40 minutes. First Responders were directing traffic and allowing it to flow in one direction at at time by around 6:40 AM.
The Accident was under investigation by State Troopers, and we will update if they release more information.
Centre Police, The Cherokee County Rescue Squad, Cedar Bluff Fire Department, The Cherokee County EMA, State Troopers, and Atrium Health Floyd EMS responded to the scene.
