Public Safety Leadership Spotlight
Throughout the month of April, Cherokee County Emergency Management Agency (EMA) is proud to shine a spotlight on the outstanding leaders who work tirelessly to protect and serve our community. Join us as we recognize the dedication, experience, and leadership of public safety professionals across Cherokee County.
Today, we are honored to highlight Leesburg Police Chief Hunter Brisendine
Chief Hunter Brisendine proudly serves as the Chief of Police for the Town of Leesburg, bringing with him a diverse and highly accomplished background in public safety.
Chief Brisendine began his public service career in 2010 as a volunteer with the Tuckers Chapel Fire Department, where he served until 2014. A graduate of Sand Rock High School in 2012, he was hired by the Gadsden Fire Department in 2013, where he continues to serve today. He earned a promotion to Driver in 2022.
In addition to his fire service, Chief Brisendine earned his EMT-Basic certification in 2013 and worked for Rural Metro Ambulance Service until 2015. He later completed Advanced EMT training and holds a Tactical Responder certification through the International Board of Specialty Certification (IBSC).
Chief Brisendine began his law enforcement career after graduating from the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Academy in 2015. He served as a Patrol Deputy with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office before joining the Leesburg Police Department in 2019 as a Patrol Officer. Demonstrating strong leadership and investigative skills, he was promoted to Investigator/Assistant Chief in 2021 and appointed Chief of Police in 2024.
He also became a member of the Cherokee County Emergency Response Team that same year.
As an Investigator, Chief Brisendine specialized in cyber crimes, crimes against children, online child exploitation, and undercover online operations. His dedication has been recognized with commendations such as the Life Saver Award and the Silver Star for Bravery.
As Chief of Police, Chief Brisendine is committed to leading the Leesburg Police Department with professionalism, integrity, and a steadfast dedication to public safety. He is passionate about serving the citizens of Leesburg and providing the highest level of law enforcement service, while maintaining the close-knit spirit of a small-town community.
Chief Brisendine is a proud husband and father of two.
