Two Men Pledge to Take the Extra Step(s) To Raise Money for Downs Syndrome Alabama:

Am event will be held Saturday March 1st to raise funds for Downs Syndrome Alabama.

The Down Syndrome Honor Bash will be held at Back 40 Beer in Gadsden, featuring a 5 K Run, and then from 11 until 2 an event will take place at the brewery with fun for the entire family, all for a wonderful cause.

Downs Syndrome Alabama is an organization that strives to bring Lifelong Awareness, Acceptance and Advocacy for People with Down syndrome.

“We envision and strive for an Alabama where individuals with Down syndrome are accepted and included for who they are. We provide hope and support to each person and their families with educational resources and networking opportunities throughout all stages of life.”

The event will feature bounce houses, face painting, balloon animals, a bubble house, cotton candy truck, an ice cream truck, live music, and a sensory room will be provided from Kulture City. The event is open to the public, and is free to attend.

Two Etowah County men though, have pledged to go not just the extra mile, but 25 miles to raise additional awareness and funds.

Zack McKenzie and Chad Lee, have pledged to do a 25 mile walk to raise additional funds. Lee, whose girlfriend’s son has downs syndrome, and McKenzie were talking about what they could do more, and came up with the idea for the walk. They will walk 25 miles on the Cheif Ladiga trail, in honor of John Marshall Maples to support the organization and its mission. The funds raised will help improve the lives of those in the community and support educational and medical initiatives for families like John Marshall’s.

We plan to track the pairs journey, and will report back when they complete their walk.

If you would like more information on how to donate or support this cause, contact Zack McKenzie at 256-504-2625.
