Officer Injured in Accident Involving Deputy and Police Officer

A local police officer was injured last night responding to an accident call in Cherokee County. An initial call came in that there was a collision between a vehicle and a home located along County Road 34 around 11:20 PM. A car had wrecked into the porch of a residence.

While responding to the scene, according to Cherokee County Chief Deputy Josh Summerford, a Leesburg Officer collided with a Cherokee County Sheriff’s Deputy and a third civilian vehicle.

Reports are that multiple people were injured. Leesburg Police Chief Hunter Brisendine confirmed a Leesburg Officer received non-life threatening injuries, and was transported to Atrium Heatlh Floyd Medical Center in Rome.

An ambulance was in the vicinity of the vehicles when the accident occurred. No injuries were sustained in the initial accident, so that ambulance was diverted to remain at the scene of the second accident involving the officers. The names of the officers involved has not been released at this time.

Currently, no more information is available. The Alabama State Troopers office said the report was not available as of yet, but that they hoped to have more information later this afternoon. We will continue to monitor this story, and update it as information becomes available.
