CENTRE – The Cherokee County Lady Warriors got the Class 4A, Area 12 tournament started with a bang Friday evening.

The Lady Warriors went on a 25-0 run to begin their opening-round game against Cleburne County and cruised to a 73-19 victory to clinch a berth in Monday’s area championship game at 5 p.m. They’ll take on Alexandria, a 63-16 winner over White Plains in the other area tournament semifinal on Friday.

Ellisan Givens led the Lady Warriors (22-3) with 19 points. Libby Curry connected on three 3-pointers and had 17 points. Jolie Alexander added 10 points and Nevaeh Gaidurgis finished with nine points.

Hannah Turley led the Lady Tigers with 14 points, including a 6-of-7 performance from the free-throw line.

The Lady Warriors led 45-6 at halftime and 71-12 after three quarters.
