Sand Rock boys outlast Piedmont in OT 62-61

SAND ROCK – Sand Rock’s Ty Traffanstedt netted 25 points, including three 3-pointers. He was also 6-for-9 shooting at the free-throw line and grabbed eight rebounds in leading the Wildcats to a 62-61 overtime win against Piedmont on Tuesday night.

Will Cleere posted 18 points and 12 rebounds for the Class 2A, No. 6 Wildcats (14-8). Cam Gifford delivered 11 points and seven boards. Jonas Browder scored five points in overtime and had three rebounds and an assist.

Rollie Pinto topped Class 3A, No. 8 Piedmont (11-5) with 25 points, including three 3-pointers. Pinto scored 10 of his points in overtime, which including a pair of treys.

Colton Proctor produced 14 points for the Bulldogs. Ishmael Bethel and Dylan Oliver both finished with six points. Oliver’s points came on a pair of 3-pointers.

The game was tight throughout. Piedmont held a 14-12 advantage at the end of the first quarter and a 27-25 advantage at halftime. Sand Rock surged out to a 38-34 lead at the end of the third quarter, but the Bulldogs battled back to tie the game at 51 the end of regulation.

Sand Rock opens Cherokee County Tournament play at Richard Lindsey Arena in Centre on Friday against Cherokee County at 8:30 p.m. Piedmont hosts Westbrook Christian on Friday.
