Due to the threat of winter weather and the resulting hazardous driving conditions, many schools and government offices across the WEIS coverage area have announced closings for Friday, Jan. 10 (with one school also closing Thursday, Jan 9). See the current list below:

 

School Closings

 

Alabama:

Cherokee County Schools: closed Friday.

Albertville City Schools: closed Thursday and Friday; extracurricular activities already scheduled for Thursday will proceed as planned.

Anniston City Schools: closed Friday.; all non-emergency city facilities will be closed.

Boaz City Schools: closed Friday.

Calhoun County Schools: closed Friday.

Cleburne County Schools: closed Friday.

Collinsville Athletic Club’s annual giveaway has been postponed until Saturday, Jan. 18; the event will be held at the Collinsville Community Center beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Cornerstone Christian Academy: school and preschool closed Friday.

DeKalb County Schools: closed Friday.

Etowah County Schools: closed Friday.

Fort Payne City Schools: closed Friday.

Gadsden City Schools: closed Friday.

Gadsden State Community College: all campuses closed Friday.

Jacksonville City Schools: closed for normal operations Friday; classes cancelled; essential employees will be notified by their supervisor as to work expectations.

Jacksonville State University: closed Friday.

Marshall County Schools: closed Friday.

Northeast Alabama Community College: closed Friday.

Oxford City Schools: closed Friday.

Piedmont City Schools: E-Learning Friday.

Westbrook Christian School: closed Friday.

 

Georgia:

Chattooga County Schools: closed Friday.

Darlington School: closed Friday.

Georgia Northwestern Technical College: all campuses closed Friday; all classes, activities, and events are canceled.

Polk School District: Learn-from-Home day on Friday; all extracurricular activities/sporting events for Friday and Saturday are canceled and will be rescheduled at a later date.

 

Government Closings

 

Alabama:

Cedar Bluff Town Hall: closed Friday; Friday’s garbage pickup will instead be Thursday, Jan. 9.

Cedar Bluff Utilities Office: closed Friday.

Centre City Hall: closed Friday; garbage pick up will instead run Monday, Jan. 13.

Cherokee County Offices (Administration Building and Courthouse): closed Friday.

City of Centre Municipal Court: rescheduled for July 9; for more information, please call 256-927-5419.

DeKalb County Offices: closed Friday.

Little River Canyon National Preserve: the park will be closed on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, Jan. 10-12; the park management team will assess on Sunday, if any further closures need to be made.

Piedmont Police Department’s lobby will be open as a warming shelter.

 

Georgia:

Chattooga County Government Offices: closed Friday.

Chattooga County Health Department: closed Friday.

Chattooga County State Court: closed Friday.

City of Menlo Offices: closed Friday.

City of Summerville Offices: closed Friday.

Floyd County Health Department: closed Friday.

Georgia Department of Public Health Northwest Health District Office in Rome: closed Friday.

Polk County Health Department: closed Friday.

Town of Trion Offices: closed Friday.
