Austin’s all-around performance propels Garden girls past Gadsden City 54-36 in Alabama ONE Cherokee Basketball Classic

CENTRE – Spring Garden senior point guard Ace Austin collected 32 points, including three 3-pointers, along with seven rebounds, two assists, two steals and a block, to lead the Lady Panthers to a 54-36 victory over Gadsden City in the Alabama ONE Cherokee Basketball Classic on Friday.

Olivia Law added 10 points, five rebounds, two assists and a steal for the Lady Panthers (12-0). Maggie Jarrett posted seven points, five assists and four rebounds. Kristen Lewis finished with five points.

Naomi Wise topped the Lady Titans with 16 points. Destiny Whiteside tossed in 13 points.

Spring Garden jumped out to a 16-6 lead in the first quarter and led 34-14 at halftime. The Lady Panthers held a 47-25 edge at the end of three quarters.

Girls

Ohatchee 41, Gaylesville 16

CENTRE – The Ohatchee Lady Indians jumped out on a 17-0 run and cruised to a 41-16 victory over Gaylesville on Friday.

Ohatchee led 21-1 at the end of the first quarter and 34-4 at halftime. Gaylesville didn’t score its first basket until a 3-pointer by Lydia Reynolds with 6:43 remaining in the first half.

Reynolds led the Lady Trojans with seven points. Abbie Bishop and Miley Reynolds finished with five and four points respectively.

Emily Riddle led the Lady Indians with 10 points. Greenlee Orman netted nine points. Tabi Davidson tallied eight points and Peyten Walker finished with six points.

Boys

Ohatchee 78, Gaylesville 36

CENTRE – Jake Roberson netted 26 points to lead the Ohatchee Indians past Gaylesville 78-36 on Friday.

Roberson scored 18 of his points in the first quarter, in which the Indians built a 36-9 edge. Ohatchee led 57-18 at halftime.

Brayden Collins sank four 3-pointers and had 16 points. Alston Carroll contributed 13 points, including three treys. Colby Hester had nine points and Hayden Heard finished with six points.

Collin Hendon led the Trojans with 24 points.
