Florida Man Fatally Wounded After Firing at Officers in Rainbow City

On Wednesday, Dec. 11, at the request of the Rainbow City Police Department, Special Agents with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s (ALEA) State Bureau of Investigation (SBI) launched an investigation into an officer-involved shooting involving officers with the Rainbow City and Gadsden Police Departments.

The incident occurred at approximately 11:56 a.m. when officers responded to a call for service regarding a domestic situation in the area of Williams Avenue in Rainbow City. Over the course of the incident, the suspect, identified as Jamin David Elkins, 46, of Dora, Fla., fired at officers. Officers returned fire, fatally wounding Elkins. No officers were injured over the course of the incident.

Nothing further is available as the investigation is ongoing. Once complete, the findings will be turned over to the Etowah County District Attorney’s Office.
