Welsh twins help Spring Garden boys hold on against North Sand Mountain 91-88

SPRING GARDEN – Jake Welsh tossed in 39 points and John Welsh delivered 27 as the Spring Garden Panthers outlasted North Sand Mountain by the final of 91-88 in boys basketball action on Tuesday night.

Connor Bates connected on a pair of 3-pointers and had nine points for the Panthers (5-0). Noah Barber contributed eight points and Jaylen Brown finished with five points.

Aiden Helton led the Bison with 18 points. Jaxson Stiles added 17 points, including three 3-pointers in the fourth quarter. Jack Johnson sank a pair of treys and finished with 14 points. William Maples managed 11 points, all in the second half.

North Sand Mountain held a 16-15 advantage after a quarter, but Spring Garden went out in front 35-32 at halftime. The Panthers led 57-55 after three quarters and held on by outscoring the Bison 34-33 in the fourth quarter for the final.

Spring Garden plays at Appalachian on Friday.
