Class 1A Region 8 football coaches select all-region team

The Class 1A Region 8 football coaches recently selected their all-region team. Region champion Spring Garden (11-1) led the way with eight selections, along with Region Co-Most Valuable Player John Welsh, Co-Offensive MVP Connor Bates, and Coach of the Year Barrett Ragsdale.

Appalachian’s Braden Gilliland was chosen Co-MVP with Welsh. Gaylesville’s Alex Baty was selected as Co-Offensive MVP with Bates.

Defensive Co-MVPs are Appalachian’s Aden Brown, Valley Head’s Ben Johnson and Ragland’s Luke Brewer.

Joining Welsh, Bates and Ragsdale from Spring Garden is Jacob Welsh, Grey Simpson, Tanner Ruark, Hayes Garmon, Noah Barber, Colton Driskell, Clayton Sadler and Johnny Baker.

Panther honorable mention players are Zane Edwards, Mason Wood, Zach Scogin and Carson Bostick.

Joining Baty from Gaylesville (4-5) is Hunter Allmond, Tanner Hughes, Collin Hendon and Karrson Ray. Trojan honorable mention players are Caden Angle, Jack Sentell, Daylen Dobbins, Timmy Dawson and Aydn Heinrich.

Also selected from Appalachian (9-3) is Sean Curtis, Andrew Cooper, Eli Beard, Reid Murphree, Cole Smith, Sam Stidham and Riley Murphree. Eagle honorable mention players are Caydon Whittington, Will Armstrong, JT Hyde and Wyatt Cleckler.

In addition to Brewer, Ragland (5-6) has six other selections in A’kon Lee, Tacorion Soles, Ethan Everett, Jagger Cox, Trey Bothwell and Antwann Byers. Purple Devil honorable mention players are Cash Robinson, Chris Alexanee, Bradley Dill, Grayson Hay and Shawn Humpkins.

Joining Johnson from Valley Head (6-5) is Nate Bain, Layne Hawkins, Kylan Tubberville, Tytan Blevins and Cayson McElrath. Tiger honorable mention players are Cayden Collins, Lucas Elkin, Seth Hall, Luther Wright and Raudel Sejura.

Woodville (3-7) has three selections in Steve Williams, Landon Campbell and Issiahh Vasquez. Panther honorable mention players are Jonah Sparks, Elijah Sparks and Kadon Franklin.
