The Cherokee County Commission met in Regular Session on Wednesday of this week; that due to the recent Presidential Election requiring a very brief “waiting period” after the election; prior to the meeting – an official “swearing-in ceremony” was held for two re-elected Commissioners.
That included, District I Commissioner Randy Jones, and also the District III Commissioner Ronnie Shaw – both of whom, said that they were “Very Happy” to serve once again, in that capacity.
Once the meeting was underway, the County Commission approved their 2024/2025 Meeting Schedule; they also adopted the 2024 Alabama Farm City Week proclamation, and a Resolution was presented recognizing the large number of local students for the many outstanding Future Farmers of America achievements. A Future Farmers “Young Student” art gallery was also on display with all of those gathered hearing from Landon Marx – who expressed the strong Community Pride – in what this organization means to so many.
In other business the Commission approved the proposal for IBM System Hardware Maintenance; that, in the amount of $2,450.00.
A vehicle from the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office was among a number of items approved to be listed in upcoming public auctions; that included a 2018 Ford Explorer from the County Sheriff’s Office – from the Highway Department, a 2001 and also a 2008 Ford F150 – also, two other vehicles from the Highway Department – a pair of 2022 model Mack Dump trucks with tandem axles to be sold at the next J.M. Wood Equipment Auction.
The next meeting of the Cherokee County Commission, is set for Monday, November 25th in the Cherokee County Administration Building – set for 5:00pm – 260 Cedar Bluff Road, in Centre.
