CENTRE – Adam Griffith completed all four of his pass attempts for 144 yards and three touchdowns, and Tristan Brown ran for 146 yards on five carries with two scores in leading the third-ranked Cherokee County Warriors to a 49-6 thumping of Ashville in Class 4A Region 6 football action on Friday night.
The Warriors (9-1) closed out region play undefeated at 7-0. The seniors also earned their 41st victory in their careers, tying the 2009 state championship team’s seniors for most wins in a career.
Griffith got the Warriors off to a good start on Friday, connecting with Ben Frampton on a 43-yard touchdown pass in the first quarter. Frampton added the point after to give Cherokee County an early 7-0 advantage.
Frampton finished with three catches for 105 yards and two touchdowns.
Brown added a 54-yard touchdown run later in the quarter to put the Warriors up two scores at 14-0. Luke Young then caught a 39-yard touchdown pass from Griffith to close out the first-quarter scoring, putting the Warriors up 21-0.
Frampton opened the second-quarter scoring with a 46-yard touchdown catch from Griffith. Brown added a 35-yard touchdown run to push the Warrior lead to 35-0.
Ashville (1-8, 1-6) finally got on the scoreboard on a John Potter-to-Jamon Williams 85-yard touchdown connection to make it a 35-6 game. Potter completed 18 of 26 pass attempts for 245 yards and a touchdown. Williams caught four passes for 133 yards and a score.
The Warriors closed out the second quarter with a 7-yard touchdown run from Keyshawn Woods for a 42-6 advantage. Woods finished with 69 yards on five carries with a touchdown.
Jayshawn Stroup scored the Warriors’ final touchdown in the third quarter on a 2-yard run. He ran for 38 yards on five carries with a score.
Cherokee County has next Friday off before hosting a first-round playoff game on Nov. 8.
