Cedar Bluff falls short of Class 2A state volleyball tournament

HOOVER – The Cedar Bluff Lady Tigers fell a match win short of the Class 2A state tournament in the North Super Regional at the Finley Center in Hoover on Wednesday.

The Lady Tigers (15-23) opened regional play with a 25-19, 25-14, 25-11 victory over Southeastern. They then fell to top-ranked Lindsay Lane 15-25, 14-25, 18-25 to end their season.

“I saw a lot of growth from several individuals this year and the team as a whole,” Cedar Bluff coach Deidra Cox said. “Several took on a bigger role for us this year, not only from a playing aspect but also being leaders on the court. I think this season will be a big motivator for those returning next season.”

In the win over Southeastern, Rylie Walker delivered four aces, three digs, two kills and 24 assists. Kindal Grace earned 14 kills, a pair of aces, a dig and a pair of blocks. Janaya Higgins also had 13 kills.

Caley Bruce contributed four blocks and a kill. Anslee Evans added an ace, a kill and two blocks. Blakelea Hall had three digs. Kaylyn Vadon finished with four digs, two aces and three assists.

Against Lindsay Lane, Walker collected 17 assists, four digs and a kill. Grace gained seven kills, two aces and a dig. Bruce had three kills and a block.

Evans posted two blocks, a dig and a kill. Hall came away with eight digs. Higgins delivered five kills and three digs. Vadon finished with four digs and a kill.
