DeKalb County Fatal Crash Update

UPDATE

A two-vehicle crash that occurred at approximately 10:20pm – Saturday, September 28th, claimed the life of a Boaz man.    

According to the latest report from the Alabama State Troopers Post, the driver of a 2018 Nissan Versa, Apolinario T. Velasquez, age 26 was fatally injured when his vehicle was struck by a 2004 GMC Envoy that was being driven by an 18-year-old.

According to State Trooper reports, after the initial impact, both vehicles left the roadway. The Nissan overturned – and was then struck again by the GMC; Velasquez was not using a seat belt at the time of crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.   The 18-year-old, and a 16-year-old passenger in the GMC, were both hurt and transported to an area hospital for treatment.   The passenger in the Nissan, Felipe Raymundo, age 21 of Albertville, who was not using a seatbelt at the time of the crash was also injured – and he was transported to Huntsville Hospital for treatment.

The crash occurred on Alabama Highway 75 near DeKalb County 24, four miles south of Geraldine, in DeKalb County.

Nothing further is currently available as Troopers with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency’s Highway Patrol Division continue to investigate.
