Man Behind Bars Following Road Rage Incident

A 40-year-old man is behind bars, following a Road Rage shooting in east Alabama.  Gadsden Police responded at 3:17pm Tuesday – to reports of a shooting at the intersection of Rainbow Drive and Lakewood Drive.

They arrived to find a woman wounded – and fortunately they found that her injuries were not life-threatening.  Investigators learned that the suspect – later identified as Tommy Junior Smith of Oxford – fired at the victim from his Jeep, and he then fled in the direction of Interstate I-755.  A lookout bulletin was issued to surrounding law enforcement agencies.

The vehicle was later spotted by Rainbow City Police – where the officers made a traffic stop, and took Smith into custody; he was charged with 1st Degree Assault and Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle.  Police said the shooting was an isolated Road Rage incident – adding that there was no on-going threat to public safety.  The Etowah County Sheriff’s Office, the Southside Police Department, the Attalla Police Department, and Etowah County Drug Enforcement Unit all assisted.

Smith remains held in the Etowah County Jail.
