Mrs. Jessie Charlene “Charlene” Glover, age 87, of Piedmont, AL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 1, 2024. Born on January 17, 1937, Charlene was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was a testament to her unwavering dedication, generosity, and commitment to her family, church, and students.
After graduating from Piedmont High School, Charlene made Piedmont her lifelong home, where she married her high school sweetheart, Ray Glover. Together, they shared 69 wonderful years of marriage, filled with love, adventure, and countless cherished memories.
Charlene was a passionate educator who taught English and literature at the local high school for 32 years. She was an extraordinary teacher, deeply committed to touching the lives of every student she taught. Her dedication earned her the respect and admiration of her students, colleagues, and the entire school community.
A longtime member of the Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Piedmont, Charlene found joy in singing in the choir and serving others. Her faith and devotion to her church were central to her life, reflecting her generous and caring nature.
Above all, Charlene treasured her family. She was known for her warmth and hospitality, hosting monthly birthday dinners for every member of the family, down to the great-grandchildren. Her legacy of love, kindness, and selflessness will forever be remembered by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband Ray Glover, her children Rick Glover (Vickie) and Becky Patterson (Joe) , five grandchildren, Jessica Rhinehart (Johnny), Matt Glover (Magan), Caleigh Jane McGatha (Darrin), Hunter Amberson (Amber), and Peyton Amberson (Amber); 10 great-grandchildren, Jacob Rhinehart, Lucas Rhinehart, Jaycee Glover, Nick Glover, Zack Rhinehart, Griffin McGatha, Liam McGatha, Ryan Amberson, Memphis Amberson, and Mallory Kate Amberson; and a host of loving family and friends.
A service to celebrate Charlene’s life will be Thursday, September 5, 2024, at 3:00 pm at Thompson Funeral Home with the Rev. Ken Byford officiating and Patti Needham and Freda Davidson giving the eulogy. Burial will follow at Piedmont Memory Gardens. The family will receive friends Thursday from 1:00 -3:00 pm at the funeral home.
