Robison carries Sand Rock to 14-8 football win over West End

SAND ROCK – Sand Rock senior fullback Kane Robison ran for 164 yards and two touchdowns on 27 carries, lifting the Wildcats to a 14-8 victory over West End on Friday.

But it was West End that struck first on their first offensive play. Quarterback Jaxon Hamby hit Eli Williams on an 80-yard scoring strike. The 2-point conversion was good, giving the Patriots an 8-0 lead.

The Wildcats (1-1) responded with Robison’s touchdown runs, both of which also happened in the first quarter. Morgan Tucker connected on the extra points to give the Wildcats the lead, and they were able to hold on from there.

Sand Rock sophomore quarterback Alec Ashley completed 7 of 13 pass attempts for 65 yards. Senior all-purpose player Gatlin Cox carried the ball 10 carries for 35 yards, had three catches for 39 yards and on defense posted five tackles with an assist including a tackle for loss. Senior lineman Caiden Bullard recovered a fumble.

Hamby completed 5 of 10 passes for 130 yards and a touchdown for West End (0-2). Williams had a pair of catches for 125 yards and a touchdown.

Sand Rock travels to North Sand Mountain on Friday.
