Centre City Council Regular Meeting

During Tuesday afternoon’s City of Centre Council Meeting, Mayor Mark Mansfield addressed the Council about the Street and Sanitation Department surplus items and vehicles they have accumulated. Mansfield called on Bobby Paul, Supervisor of Street and Sanitation, and he informed the Council of all of the surplus vehicles and other items on govdeals.com. This was approved by the Council.

Next on the agenda was prohibiting shipping storage containers in the city limits of Centre. The Council suspended the rules and this was approved by Council. The Council then adopted ordinance section 4 of ordinance number 13-277.

The Council approved the change orders for the New City Hall. Raymond Matthews, Building Inspector, spoke at length about more asbestos found in the classrooms behind chalk boards. They will need an additional $6,130.68 to get it removed and Matthews said it has to go now.

Next up, Mayor Mansfield informed the Council that Architect Tom McElrath told him there needs to be an agreement with the MBA Engineers, INC testing over site. This needs to be taken care of as an abundance caution. Geo-Tech work, which is underground, could be needed in the park. The estimate for this testing is $ 57,180.00. But, they might not need it. It could be for preventative measure. Then the Council received a quote from Ellis Brothers Grading of $7,800.00 for gravel in the parking lot behind the baseball fields. Both items were approved by Council.

Last on the agenda, the Council passed the New Vision Magazine Advertising ad for $1,155.00.

In Mayor’s Comments, Mansfield told the Council he met with Joy Perry and they’re going to proceed forward with next year’s rodeo.  The dates and length of the contract still need to be confirmed.

The next City of Centre council meeting will be September 10th.
