The DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, says they’ve recently had a number of calls reporting someone using the name of the Sheriff’s Office attempting to SCAM members of the public.
According to information released by law enforcement, they said be very careful with this types of calls – many of which are coming from a person with a “very heavy accent” (but that is subject to change possibly) as they try to pass themselves off as an actual member of law enforcement. They are demanding a certain amount of money due to a “warrant” – and then are giving instructions on how to pay – they’re also stating the price of the warrant is “negotiable” – if you don’t have amount requested. Also, they are stating Sheriff Welden is in a meeting when the target asks to speak with the Sheriff.
This is a SCAM !!!
The Sheriff’s Office DOES NOT CALL in reference to a warrant – furthermore they DO NOT issue warrants, only the Clerk’s Office does that.
Call (256) 845-3801 if you have any questions or concerns regarding this scam or any other – and a supervisor will gladly help with the matter.
