Authorities found the human remains of an Ashville man in Canoe Creek, south of Rainbow City, Saturday – a day after he was reported missing.
Authorities identified the man as Roger Dale Whisman.
Whisman, age 45, was reported missing to Rainbow City Police at around 3:50pm, on Friday; he’d reportedly last been seen in the area of Rainbow Drive and Riddles Bend Road near the St. Clair County line. The Rainbow City Police Department and Rainbow City Fire Department, responded to the area to check the waterway and surrounding areas. Additionally – the Etowah County Dive Team quickly responded, to assist in the search on the waterway; an extensive search was conducted and it was paused because of lack of daylight.
Multiple agencies resumed their search early Saturday, then at 12:49pm the agencies assisting in the search – notified Rainbow City Police human remains had been located down the river from the initial search location. The agency stated that the circumstances of Whisman’s death do remain under investigation.
His body has been taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science, in Huntsville, for an autopsy.
