MONTGOMERY – Spring Garden’s Ace Austin scored five points and dished out a game-high four assists in helping the North Girls All-Star Basketball team earn an 87-46 victory over the South at the Cramton Bowl MultiPlex Tuesday night.
The North won its sixth game in a row and improved to 24-3 in the series.
Good Hope’s Ava McSwain sank 5-of-6 shots in the first half, including a perfect 3-for-3 behind the 3-point arc to rack up 13 points as the North built a 37-24 lead. She made one more shot in the second half to finish with a game-high 16 points to earn North team MVP honor.
The team, coached by Justin Bowen of Southside and Amber Deline of Hartselle, amassed 19 assists, 15 steals, nine blocked shots, 50 rebounds, shot 50-percent from the field (32-of-64), managed 13-of-15 free throws and sank 10 3-pointers. McSwain finished 4-for-4 from the 3-point arc and was 6-of-8 overall from the field.
Haley Trotter of Chelsea chipped in 12 points and three steals. Vestavia Hills’ Sarah Gordon, Hewitt-Trussville’s Ashlyn Howard, and Sulligent’s Ella Wheeler added eight points each. Shila Marks of Lauderdale Count chipped in seven.
Keyarria Stokes of Pleasant Grove led the North with seven rebounds. Brett Douglas of Hazel Green pulled down six rebounds and blocked four shots.
Park Crossing’s Siniya Jackson had nine points by halftime and four steals early in the second half and was quite a thorn in the North’s transition game. She earned South MVP honors finishing with a team-high 14 points and four steals.
Auburn’s Brooke Hallman and Trinity’s Maddie Smith added eight points each.
