During the Tuesday afternoon City of Centre Council Meeting Mayor Mansfield addressed the Council a meeting he had with the Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce and Shawn Rogers the Cherokee County EMA Director. They spoke about the rodeo wrap up and possibly having the rodeo in Centre next year. “They did break even after expenses” Mansfield said. He and the Council seemed quite happy with the overall turnout. He said he would like to see the rodeo here earlier next year. This will be on the agenda next meeting.
The quarterly reports were given from the Department supervisors.
Raymond Matthews, Building Inspector spoke at length about Circle K coming to Centre and Harbor Freight will opening on July 23rd. He said great things are coming to Centre. The future looks very bright. Robert Pace, the Fire Chief told the Council there we’re 156 calls for the quarter and average response times were 8 Minutes 8 seconds for the quarter. Police Chief, Kirk Blankenship informed the Council during April -1 until June 3rd there were 81 arrests , 721 warrants served, and 42 wrecks. He is very happy with everyone with the Centre Police Department. Jay Wilson, Director of Parks and Recreation told the Council they had 800 participants with baseball and softball combined. The Aquatic Center is doing great. Soccer is coming up soon and they have been very busy. Last up, was Bobby Paul, Supervisor, Street and Sanitation told the Council the new Mosquito Sprayer is great and mowing is going well. He said they’re busy and trying to beat the heat.
The Council Approved the Audit Fee in the amount of $22,900 along with the City Park Tree cutting quote from Johnson Tree Service in the amount of $1,650.00.
In Mayors Comments: Mansfield spoke with Raymond Matthews about City Hall. Construction time is coming close. They’re working on asbestos removal right now.
The next City of Centre Council meeting will be July 23rd.
