UPDATE: Multiple Accidents in Cherokee County Thursday Afternoon

After speaking with Centre Police, we have obtained additional information on two separate automobile accidents, that occurred on the Chesnut Bypass in Centre yesterday (Thursday).

Around 11:50am, there was an accident involving a 2014 Toyota Tacoma, being driven by a 16-year-old juvenile, and a 2010 Ford escape, driven by an 80-year-old Centre woman. The teenage boy was transported by private vehicle to be checked out at a nearby hospital, while the elderly lady was taken to the hospital by an ambulance for evaluation.

The crash occurred across from the Fishin’ Hole Restaurant.  The accident reportedly involved a power pole being hit, resulting in the Cherokee Co-op responding to the scene.

And, only a few moments later, another accident apparently occurred in the same vicinity.  That mishap was logged-in at 12:10pm, and involved both a 2018 Acura RDX being driven by a 66-year-old female and a 2020 Ford Fusion, driven by a 58-year-old male.

Fortunately, no one required treatment afterwards.

Both wrecks remain under investigation.

Responding agencies included the Centre Police Department, Centre Fire Department, and Atrium Floyd EMS.

Also, at approximately the same time, there was a report of a possible other vehicle being on fire and/or a grass fire occurring in the area of County Road 45 in Cherokee County.  The McCord’s Fire Department quickly responded to that location.

We’ll have more information as reports are made available.
