In 2022, the BBB’s Scam Tracker Risk Report identified online purchase scams as the No. 1 riskiest scam. With the National Retail Federation estimating a total spending of $22.9 billion on Father’s Day gifts and celebrations this year, fraudulent sellers will likely capitalize on the opportunity to advertise products and services disguised as gift ideas.

“When purchasing gifts online for Father’s Day or any other celebration, it is essential to exercise caution and carefully read the limitations of purchase, expected delivery date, and source of the product.” said Monde Donaldson, Vice President of BBB Educational Foundation

The Better Business Bureau prides itself on its efforts to protect consumers from scammers and fraudulent products. We encourage customers to take the following precautions when purchasing gifts this Father’s Day: Read the fine print on gift cards or outing packages, Research the company you are buying from by checking the business’ BBB profile, Verify online coupons before clicking links via email or social media, and be sure to obtain a detailed written contract for any rentals.
