Boat Fire Sunday in Cherokee County

At approximately 3:20 on Sunday afternoon – a boat caught fire as it was unloaded into the water at the Public Boat ramp on Highway 9 – between Centre and Cedar Bluff.  It was reported to have a full tank of gasoline.

The Inboard/Outboard Runabout suffered fire and smoke damage, and a couple of nearby boaters on jet skis made several passes, spraying water onto the burning vessel.   The Alabama Marine Police quickly arrived on the scene – and they also sprayed water from the engine’s propellers.  The Centre Fire Department soon arrived, and finished extinguishing the blaze.

There were two people onboard the watercraft when that fire began, and they jumped into the water to escape the blaze.

Fortunately, no one was injured.
