The Cherokee County Commission recently declared April 27 through May 4th as Clean-Up Cherokee County Week. The Weiss Lake Improvement Association, along with Alabama Power Shoreline Management, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department, Alabama Pals, and many civic groups and individual volunteers turned out today (Saturday) to begin the County wide clean up.
There is a dumpster on the parking lot of the boat ramp on the causeway between Centre and Cedar Bluff for county residents to bring their items they want to discard to the area to be hauled away. For those who want to clean up their community or a certain area or road, trash bags, gloves, and grabbers are being distributed for their use. Everyone participating today also is given a t-shirt recognizing the day and their efforts.
Today (Saturday), the Sheriff’s Department had an inmate work crew on hand to help unload the trash and items people bring in for disposal.
The City of Centre begins their city wide clean-up on Monday, April 29th and runs through May 4. Residents of Centre can put their non household trash out next to their garbage can on their regular pickup day and a second truck will come by and pick up the items and haul it away.
This is a countywide effort and working together, we can clean up the county and keep it beautiful.
