Collinsville baseball splits at Mars Hill

FLORENCE – The Collinsville Panthers split their second-round baseball playoff doubleheader Friday at Mars Hill Bible. They won the first game 3-0 but fell in the second 4-1.

In game one, Gavin Lang tossed six scoreless innings. He gave up six hits, a pair of walks and struck out five in earning the win. Zach Clanton worked an inning and gave up a walk with a pair of strikeouts.

Collinsville scored all three of its runs in the top of the first inning. Mason McAteer and Jeremiah Killian led the Panthers at the plate with a pair of hits apiece. McAteer also walked and scored a run. Killian drove in a run.

Jake Middlebrooks doubled. Lang added a hit and scored a run. Clanton, Cooper Coker and Tytan Morgan each contributed a hit. Lucas McDaniel scored a run.

In the second game, Collinsville only managed three hits against Mars Hill starting pitcher Cam Isbell. The Panthers scored their lone run in the bottom of the fourth inning on Lang’s solo home run. McAteer and Killian had the other two Panther hits.

Isbell earned the complete-game win. He finished with 12 strikeouts.

The decisive third game of the series is Saturday at noon.
