Reggie Bush will be able to officially call himself a Heisman Trophy winner again.

ESPN reported Wednesday that the former USC running back will be getting his Heisman Trophy back after having forfeited the award in 2012 amidst NCAA sanctions against the University of Southern California. During his career with the Trojans from 2003 to 2005, Bush received improper benefits while at college.

ESPN’s Pete Thamel said on X the decision for the trophy to be returned to Bush includes the Heisman Trust “finding a ‘fundamental change in college athletics’ in which rules have allowed ‘student athlete compensation’ to become ‘an accepted practice and appears here to stay.’”

According to ESPN, Bush will again be invited to all future Heisman Trophy ceremonies.

“Personally, I’m thrilled to reunite with my fellow Heisman winners and be a part of the storied legacy of the Heisman Trophy, and I’m honored to return to the Heisman family,” Bush told Thamel. “I also look forward to working together with the Heisman Trust to advance the values and mission of the organization.”

The Heisman Trust is expected to announce a formal reinstatement of the Heisman Trophy to Bush, as well as return the replica of the award to USC, officially giving the school eight total winners, the most in the country.
