City of Centre Regular Meeting

During the Tuesday afternoon City of Centre Council Meeting, Mayor Mansfield addressed the Council about the ALDOT Sidewalk Maintenance Agreement. He called on Raymond Matthews the Building Inspector to inform the Council that they will need an agreement with ALDOT. Matthews, said Centre has to maintain Main Street and cut the grass on College Street. Bobby Paul, Street and Sanitation Supervisor,  told the Council they are already doing this. The Council unanimously approved the agreement with ALDOT.

The Council then approved the Voting Delegate and Alternates at the Annual League of Municipalities Convention. Mayor Mansfield has to attend this.

Bobby Paul, spoke to the Council once again about the purchasing of garbage cans. He said Centre only has 10 cans available with many existing cans being  busted up and some are 18 years old. The price of purchasing these cans is $28,578.00 with a six week turnaround on delivery. The cans are coming from Ingram Equipment Company. This was approved. After this, the Council Approved to purchase awning’s for the Community Center at a cost of $ 4,800.

Next up, was the Police Department purchasing of a Chevrolet Silverado Truck with extra equipment. This was a budgeted item and approved by the Council for $ 69,311.50

The Council then approved a mosquito sprayer that was budgeted also. Bobby Paul told the Council they only have one and it’s not operational.  He also said the turnaround time is only a week with the equipment coming from the Versa Company for $14,780. Paul also informed the Council, Centre has no dumpsters available. They need them now. The Council approved purchasing dumpsters from T and S Welding for $ 9,000.

Mayor Mansfield, opened up discussion about the Fire Truck Bid. He told the Council he has spoken multiple times with the company, Deep South, about the specifications for the Fire Truck. Mansfield, said this is what we want at the price point with the lowest bid. The Council approved the Fire Truck bid of $454,429, 00.

In Mayors Comments: he congratulated Council Member, Bess Yarbough for getting the Mary George Waite Spirit Award from the Chamber of Commerce. He also congratulated Robert Pace for becoming the City of Centre’s new Fire Marshall.

The Next City of Centre Council Meeting will be May 7th.
