The Cherokee Softball Invitational got underway in Centre and Gaylesville on Friday with four pool play games, and it was a tough start for Cherokee County teams.
Only Spring Garden was able to earn a win – a 17-2 victory over Gaylesville behind a 4-for-4, 4-RBI performance by Maggie Reedy. The Lady Panthers will play Cherokee County at 9:30 a.m. in Gaylesville on Saturday. The Lady Warriors lost to Glencoe on Friday 4-2.
Gaylesville opens Saturday’s single-elimination tournament against Fyffe at 8 a.m.
In other pool play action on Friday, Etowah blanked Cedar Bluff 9-0 and Valley Head nipped Sand Rock 2-1.
The Gaylesville-Fyffe winner takes on Etowah at 11 a.m., followed by Glencoe against Sand Rock at 12:30 p.m. Valley Head battles Cedar Bluff at 2 p.m.
The tournament semifinals are scheduled for 3:30 and 5 p.m., followed by the championship at 6:30 p.m.
