Willie Mae Jordan of Centre, Alabama, passed away on March 12, 2024, at the age of 95.
She was born on August 15, 1928, in Centre, Alabama to Gus and Etta Mae Rains. A graduate of
Cherokee County High School, she moved to Gadsden following her marriage to Leon Jordan.
They also lived in Alexander City, Huntsville, and Vestavia Hills before retiring to Weiss Lake.
She was employed by J C Penney in Huntsville and Birmingham. They attended Baptist churches
in all four cities. Once retiring to Centre, Willie Mae became an active volunteer. The hospital,
nursing home, Celebrate Recovery at the ROC all benefited from her friendly, social personality.
Following her husband’s death in 2003, she enjoyed treating her family to beach trips so
everyone would be together. Her generosity was extended to others as well.
Willie Mae was preceded in death by her parents, her spouse of 57 years and her siblings
Woodrow Rains, Ethel Sutton, Nettie Minnis, and Pauline Stimpson.
She is survived by her son Gary Leon Jordan (Ann) of Vestavia Hills, daughter Kay Jordan
Thomas (Gary) of Alexander City, grandchildren Todd Jordan (Rachel), Matthew Jordan
(AnnMarie), Jordan Thomas (Elizabeth), Jenna Davidson (Matt), nine great-grandchildren and
several nieces and nephews.
A service in memory of Willie Mae Jordan will be held at First Baptist Church Centre on Friday,
March 15, 2024 at 1:00 PM CDT. There will be a reception and visitation at the church following
the memorial service.
