The spring severe weather season is on the horizon for Alabama.
Tornadoes are possible every single month of the year here, but the period from March to May is typically one of the busiest when it comes to tornadoes.
There is also what is sometimes called a “secondary severe weather season” that begins in November and can last into January and February.
According to data from the National Weather Service in Birmingham, Alabama had 70 confirmed tornadoes in 2023. Those tornadoes were blamed for nine deaths and 29 injuries.
So far in 2024 there have been six confirmed tornadoes, according to the weather service, and one fatality.
