Spring Garden too much for Coosa Christian in area basketball battles

SPRING GARDEN – John Welsh scored a game-high 21 points to lead the Spring Garden Panthers to a 56-31 Class 1A, Area 12 boys basketball win over visiting Coosa Christian on Thursday.

Cole Bailey came away with nine points for the Panthers. Jake Welsh and Connor Bates finished with seven and five points respectively.

Kylen Johnson led the Conquerors with 13 points. DJ Mackey managed six points and Sam Reeves finished with five points.

Spring Garden held a 16-13 advantage at the end of the first quarter and extended its lead to 33-20 at halftime. The Panthers led 46-27 after three quarters.

In girls action, the Lady Panthers pounced out to a 39-4 first-quarter edge to cruise to a 72-18 victory.

Ace Austin led Spring Garden with 18 points, including four 3-pointers. She also had nine rebounds, five assists and two steals.

Chloe Rule collected 15 points, six boards, two steals and an assist. Olivia Law added 10 points, five steals, five assists and three rebounds.

Libby Brown came away with nine points, three rebounds two assists, two steals. Maggie Jarrett contributed eight points, including a pair of treys, to go along with four assists, two rebounds and two steals. Allie Mobbs finished with eight points and 10 rebounds.
