Lady Warriors off to 2-0 start in Etowah Christmas Tournament

ATTALLA – Despite not having Mary Hayes Johnson and Audrey Haygood due to sickness on Thursday, the Cherokee County Lady Warriors still managed to defeat Class 5A Boaz 48-36 in the Etowah Christmas Tournament.

Macy Lea sank four 3-pointers and had 12 points to lead the Lady Warriors. Ellisan Givens added a pair of treys and had 10 points. Nevaeh Gaidurgis also scored 10 points. Ava Haygood and Deannia Starr finished with seven and six points respectively.

Lillac Stanton led the Lady Pirates with 13 points, including a pair of 3-pointers. Mollie Brock delivered seven points. Sydney Noles netted six points and McKenzie Garcia finished with five points.

Cherokee County led 11-8 at the end of the first quarter and built a 28-19 edge at halftime. The Lady Warriors held a 41-25 advantage at the end of the third quarter.

On Wednesday, the Lady Warriors defeated Sardis in the tournament opener 55-40.

Johnson led the way with 19 points, eight steals, five rebounds and three assists. Starr collected six points, 15 rebounds and three blocks. Ava Haygood added six points, six rebounds and four steals. Givens came away with 12 points, four rebounds and three steals. Lea finished with five points.

Kaylen Wallace led Sardis with 17 points. Vada Willmore finished with six points.

Cherokee County concludes the tournament by taking on Springville at 3 p.m. on Friday.
