City of Centre Council Meeting

  During the Tuesday afternoon City of Centre Work Session Ashley Langley from the CED Mental Health Prevention Program spoke about them hosting the annual Youth Program Prevention Conference at Gadsden State Cherokee campus on January 22, 2024 from 9am-11am. This event is offered to 7th and 8th grade students in Cherokee County schools at no cost. Marc Mero former WWE Wrestling Champion will be the guest speaker. He will be speaking about “Champion of Choices”. The City of Centre appropriated $1000 for this event.

During the Regular Council meeting beginning at 5pm the council approved the purchase of ballistic vests at a cost of ,848.

75 cents. The Police Department received a 50% grant towards the vests. The Council also approved the purchase of three computers from Network Solutions of Gadsden for the Police Department at a cost of $4,654.39 cents.

Raymond Matthews, discussed the water proofing of the rock entrance to Estes Field on east Main Street in Centre with a cost of $14,885. The Historical Preservation Society will contribute $6800 and the Council would pay $8885.00. Matthews, then spoke about the bleachers in the gym. He said the cost for new bleachers would be $10,644.22 cents. They would have a in-house crew to dismantle all the bleachers and get rid of the metal and old bleachers. Mayor Mansfield said they have a $5,000 credit towards the bleachers with the Council approving.

The Council discussed the annual Christmas Dinner and Awards Banquet.

This was approved for December 12th at 5pm.

The once a year pay raise at Christmas Time was approved.

Mayor Mansfield, completed the requirements for the designation of Certified Municipal Official.

The next City of Centre Council Meeting will be Tuesday December 12th.
