Leesburg Town Council Meeting

During the Leesburg Monday afternoon Town Council Meeting on November 6th, Mayor Pierce went over the agenda opening with the 4:30 Workshop. He then started the meeting at 5:00. This started with new business. The lead topic was accepting Chase Garrett’s letter of resignation effective 11/6/23. It was accepted.

The Council approved the posting for a full-time certified police officer. This will be posted November 7-13.

Mayor Pierce opened two sealed bids for the Leesburg Weigh-In Station. The Council accepted the second bid from Jonathon Hightower for $15. 880.00. The City of Leesburg of Leesburg is responsible for the base materials which is $ 6,842.30. With the total project priced at $22,722.30. This was unanimously approved.

Mayor Pierce then opened three sealed bids for the construction of the steel building on Lokey Street. The Mayor and Council still had some unanswered questions about two of the bids. So, this will be amended once Mayor Pierce knows the exact bid prices from Premiere Outdoor Structures and or Grizzly Outdoor Structures.

The Council approved the $1000 donation to the WLIA Crappie Rodeo. Along with sending Investigator Hunter Brisendine to attend  a SWAT class from 11-13 to the 16th. Cost of the class is $ 365.00. Also, approved was the purchase of an ammo-up machine that picks up spent casings on the ground at the gun range. The cost is $599.00.

The Council talked at length about purchasing a Light Tower for $13, 625. This was approved because Mayor Pierce stressed that  the City of Leesburg really needs this for many events.

Mayor Pierce and Police Chief Chatman spoke off the agenda about JHS processing crime scenes for $2500. This was approved.

The Christmas Party will be Monday December 4th at Decks and Docks and Christmas in the Park is Saturday December 2nd.

The next Leesburg Town Council will be December 4th.
