A number of members from the McCord’s Crossroads Volunteer Fire Department were dispatched to a home located in the 6000 block of County Road 40 just before 1:00 Monday afternoon to a report of a wild land fire with structures in danger. Fire Chief Rich Lindsey arrived on the scene – to find a two-acre wild land fire with an abandoned barn involved – also – another shed and residence in immediate danger.
A full structural assignment consisting of crews from the Spring Creek and Ellisville fire departments, were dispatched to assist. Crews quickly obtained a knock down on that field fire that was headed toward a residence, and also extinguished the structure fire with minimal damage.
Firefighters worked to contain the woods fire until the Alabama Forestry Commission could arrive, and then plow a line around the fire. Fire Departments across the area have responded to numerous wildfires over recent days. More often than not the cause of the fires was simply the result – of someone ignoring that Fire Alert that was issued by the Alabama Forestry Commission – back on October 24th. The current drought, coupled with low humidity, high winds, and recent frost has all worked to create a fire-rich environment.
Chief Lindsey urges everyone to heed all of those warnings, and postpone burning until after beneficial rainfall is received, and burning restrictions are lifted.
