TALLADEGA – John Welsh, Chapel Pope and Connor Bates each ran for over 100 yards and combined for six rushing touchdowns in leading the Spring Garden Panthers to a 51-23 Class 1A, Region 6 football victory at Talladega County Central on Friday.
Welsh accumulated 191 yards on six carries with three touchdowns. Pope provided 132 yards on four carries with two touchdowns. Bates finished with 104 yards on 10 carries with a touchdown.
The trio helped Spring Garden (5-2, 3-1) build a 30-15 first-quarter advantage and a 44-15 lead at halftime.
Noah Barber was 3-of-5 passing for 53 yards, including a 38-yard touchdown to Pope in the first quarter.
Defensively, the Panthers were led by Grey Simpson’s five tackles. Tanner Ruark posted four tackles and a sack. Carson Bostick had an interception and Bates recovered a fumble.
Spring Garden hosts Pleasant Valley on Friday. Talladega County Central (1-5, 0-3) is also at home against Donoho.
