During the Piedmont City Council Meeting Tuesday evening, Police Chief Nathan Johnson introduced two officers who have completed training at the Police Academy and ready to serve the citizens of Piedmont on a daily basis. They are Jaden Amberson and Andrew Floyd.
Governor Kay Ivey and the Alabama Tourism department sent a check to the City for $3900 to help cover the expense of Piedmont’s 4th of July Celebration promoting tourism with the area. Mayor Baker told Terry Batey the funds will be in an account for future promotions. Batey sought out the grant for the event.
The Council gave approval for the City to pursue a Cyber Security Grant to help the City’s programs and cyberspaces remain strong.
The Council approved resolution 2023-21, the Rebuild Alabama Act for another year. The City will receive money from the State’s Gasoline Tax to be used within the City for infrastructure improvements and keep the funds in a separate account.
The City’s bills were approved for payment in the amount of $519,492.21 with a payroll of $151, 887.85 for a total of $671,380.06.
Chief Nathan Johnson gave the Police Department report for the Month of July which included 39 arrests with 39 misdemeanor charges and 11 felony charges. Officers initiated 591 contacts with the public, issued 38 traffic citations, and worked 3 traffic accidents.
Interim Fire Chief Cale Donaldson also gave a thorough report from the Piedmont Fire Department. There were 109 total calls for the month of July. Also, they had three different training areas during the month.
There were no visitor comments at the City Council meeting.
The next Piedmont City Council meeting will be on September 5th after Labor Day
