Piedmont stays alive in Calhoun County Softball Tournament

ANNISTON – Piedmont will play Alexandria in the Calhoun County Softball Tournament elimination final on Thursday following Wednesday’s tournament action at Woodland Park. The top-seeded Lady Bulldogs fell to White Plains 7-0, then blanked Weaver 20-0 in three innings, and beat Oxford 8-3 to stay alive.

Against White Plains, Jenna Calvert and Armoni Perry had the only two hits for Piedmont (18-8). Savannah Smith suffered the loss after giving up two earned runs on six hits with a walk and three strikeouts.

In the win over Weaver, Cayla Brothers went 3-for-3 with a home run, two doubles, three runs and five RBIs. Cacey Brothers doubled twice and drove in two runs. Perry posted a pair of hits, three runs and three RBIs. Sarah Goss contributed a pair of hits, a pair of runs and a RBI.

Calvert doubled, scored a run and drove in one. Ava Pope managed a hit, two runs and two RBIs. Morgan Studdard finished with a hit, a run and a RBI.

Smith picked up the win after working two innings of two-hit ball with two strikeouts. Carson Young tossed an inning and gave up one hit.

In the win over Oxford, Smith delivered three hits, including a home run, a double, three runs and three RBIs. Cacey Brothers doubled, singled and drove in a run. Perry doubled and drove in two runs. Calvert contributed a pair of hits, a run and a RBI.

Goss, Jaycee Glover, Kalyn Green and Cadence Buttram each scored a run.

Emma Grace Todd tallied the win after working four innings. She gave up two earned runs on four hits with no walks and four strikeouts.

Piedmont’s game against Alexandria on Thursday will be at Jacksonville State University at 4 p.m.
