Sand Rock softball leads area teams in first ASWA rankings

The Sand Rock Lady Wildcats lead the area’s softball and baseball teams in the first Alabama Sports Writers Association poll of the season. The initial rankings were released early Thursday morning.

Sand Rock (16-6) comes in at No. 3 in the Class 2A softball poll. Other area softball teams ranked include Class 1A Cedar Bluff (6-9) at No. 4 and Class 3A Piedmont (6-3) at No. 6.

Two other teams were nominated in Class 4A Cherokee County (7-2) and Class 1A Spring Garden (1-3).

In baseball, Piedmont (5-4) comes in at No. 3. Three other teams were nominated in Cherokee County (7-6), Class 2A Collinsville (5-5) and Spring Garden (3-2).
