Sand Rock’s Hood picks up 400th career strikeout in softball tournament at Woodland Park

ANNISTON – Sand Rock’s EllaGrace Hood picked up her 400th career strikeout against Saks on Saturday at a softball tournament at Woodland Park in Anniston.

The Lady Wildcats went 3-2 on the day and reached the semifinals, where the fell by a run to Boaz 4-3.

In pool play against Saks, the Lady Wildcats (9-4) earned an 11-0 win in four innings.

Katelyn StClair went 2-for-3 with a triple and a double, two runs and a RBI. Jadyn Foster doubled, scored a run and had two RBIs. Sherina Foster added a hit, walked twice and scored two runs. Peyton Johnson contributed a hit, a run and a RBI. Lacey Barnette had a hit and a run.

Bailey Kilgore drove in a pair of runs and scored once. Hood walked and scored a run. Zoey Handy had a RBI. Emma Sipsy and Aliyah King both scored a run.

Jadyn Foster earned the win after working two innings of one-hit ball. She finished with five strikeouts.

Hood also tossed two innings, giving up a pair of hits with four strikeouts.

In a 6-0 loss to Handley in five innings in their second pool play game, King had the lone hit for the Lady Wildcats and Hood suffered the loss.

Handley scored all six of its runs in the bottom of the second.

Sand Rock rebounded in its first bracket game, a 6-3 decision over Central of Clay County in five innings.

StClair went 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and two runs. Jadyn Foster was 2-for-2 with a home run, two runs and two RBIs. Sipsy also homered and drove in a pair of runs. Briley Knight finished with a hit and scored a run.

Jadyn Foster earned the win after working 4 1/3 innings. She gave up two unearned runs on one hit with nine strikeouts.

Sand Rock avenged its earlier loss to Handley in its next bracket game with a 12-0 victory in three innings.

Barnette went 2-for-2 with a double and a pair of runs. Kilgore was also 2-for-2 with three RBIs. Jadyn Foster homered, walked and drove in three runs. Knight tripled and scored a run. StClair had a hit, two runs and three RBIs.

Hood had a hit, a walk and a RBI. Sherina Foster collected a hit, a run and a RBI. King added a hit and scored a run. Handy and Johnson scored a run apiece.

Hood earned the win after working two innings of one-hit ball with a strikeout.

In the tournament semifinals against Boaz, Sipsy went 2-for-3 with a run and a RBI. Jadyn Foster and Knight both had a hit and scored a run. Sherina Foster had a hit and drove in a pair of runs.

Jadyn Foster suffered the loss after working 4 2/3 innings. She gave up three earned runs on seven hits with no walks and six strikeouts.

Sand Rock travels to Piedmont on Monday at 5 p.m.
