A Bessemer police officer was hurt Saturday morning when he was hit by someone suspected of a drug overdose; the officer was dispatched at 3:55am to the 3000 block of Ninth Avenue North to investigate an overdose. The person was still behind the wheel of a car and responsive enough to drive off, according to Lt. Christian Clemons.
In the process, the officer was struck, and he sustained a broken foot.
The suspect was located at home in the Hoover area, where he fled again – Bessemer and Hoover police took him into custody.
His name is being withheld pending formal charges.
