Traffic Stop Results in High Speed Chase

On Saturday night, Leesburg Police Officer Matthew Walker made a traffic stop on a vehicle at the Leesburg Lodge. After several instances of giving false identification to the officer, the driver of the pickup truck finally gave the correct information, which when checked, indicated Christie Mitchell of Cedar Bluff was driving on suspended license and had a felony warrant out of Floyd County, Georgia.

When Officer Walker ordered the driver out of the vehicle, she refused and then drove away leading the Officer Walker as well as officers with the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Department, Centre Police and Cedar Bluff Police on a high speed chase along Alabama highway 273 up to the Tucker’s Chapel Community. There, spikes were successfully deployed, bringing the vehicle to a stop at a residence on county road 142, where she then bailed out and fled on foot.

Mitchell was soon apprehended and booked into the county jail on several charges, including attempting to elude, giving false information and obstructing operations, trafficking a controlled substance, unlawful possession of a controlled substance, unlawful possession of drug paraphernalia, and resisting arrest.

Leesburg Police Chief Jamie Chatman said his department was thankful for the assistance from the surrounding agencies.
